How to migrate from 1 hard disk to another

Hi, I have a system with a SATA hard disk. Tried to install RHEL 3 on it. Due to limitations with SATA support, the hard disk could not be detected. I attached a spare IDE drive, and installed RHEL 3 on that. Updating the kernel to 2.4.34 to get the SATA drive recognised. Assuming I get that working, how do I move everything over to the SATA drive so that i can remove the IDE drive from the system?

Am not sure if this would work, but may be you could try "dd". Would require serious configuration changes I believe but could be done.

Require RHEL 3 (kernel 2.4) for some software my company wants installed. Had I the option of using RHEL 4, native support for SATA would make my life a whole lot easier. =)

Anybody got any idea how to do this? Hesitant to mess with dd, I'm rather new to Linux.
