How to manually upgrade to firefox 4.0

Hi guys. I hope everything is going well for you.

I'm using Linux Mint Debian Edition. I see that the latest version of firefox is out and I would like to try it. Problem is, it probably wont show up in my package manager for a long, long time.

So I thought I would try to manually install it. I downloaded it and untar'ed the zip fie correctly. Then I copied over my old firefox directory with this one. Didn't work. The old firefox was still getting loaded up. I've done some research and it looks like i have to create a link. I don't know how to do this.

Any help would be appreciated. take care,

With the old Firefox version installed, all of your Firefox launcher icons and filetype associations will still load the old version. If you want to use the newly installed Firefox, you would need to launch the actual Firefox binary from within the directory you extracted.

If you want to "install" it properly, you could link the extracted FF4 directory to into /usr, though you could just as well run it out of /home until a proper FF4 package is released for Mint.
