How to manually install a domain on a web-server?

I've just installed a domain on my dedicated server (which runs Gentoo) using Webmin.

To deepen my understanding of the process I'd like to install another domain on the same box but this time manually, I want to know where the config files are, what I have to edit them to, and in what order... basicaly the stuff Webmin spared me the first time.

Can anyone provide a good guide? Google seems to think it's all about Windows Active Directory, doesn't have to be Gentoo specific, just for linux generaly. I know I have to register the domain name on the name server first, in this case the primary name server is the box I am installing on.

Bravo! billymayday,

That is an outstanding reference for setting up a website using Apache on multiple distributions. It gives the overview and defines and explains the details in sufficient detail to be useful to setting up a website for the first time.

Great find.

Thank you.

Good site all up actually.

Another quite good resource is the CentOS wiki (not applicable for this post though).
