How to make own distros?
 

Hello!
Well I just started searching google for a distro that will actually work on my laptop and I came across a buch of distros that were based on Debian. You know with apt-get etc... I was just wonmdering how do you make one of those? I've googled some more and I keep geting back results LFS, but I would want to "play around", with the Debian "source" so that if I actually succeded, that it would have apt and well everything that Debian has. And if this is possible is it also possible to mod only the netinst version of Debian (the 120MB of sixe appr.). Tnx for your anwsers, looking forward to them :)

Distributions that are based on Debian are pretty much just the base Debian system, a modified installer, and some reworked packages. There are usually packages added that are not available in the original distribution as well, but with Debian that is a little tough, since they have packages for almost everything.

There really isn't any magic to it. You could make a customized netinst CD if you wanted, but I am not sure I understand what you would gain by doing so.

I just want to try to make it. To see how it goes etc... Do you perhaps have any pointers or something I could read to get started on this somehow?

For each package or utility that you want to tweak, the source code will be at a site for that item--or it will be on sourceforge.
Many things are done with scripts, so you already have what you need for that.
If you want to customize the kernel, the source code is available thru your package manager, kernel.org, or from any number of mirrors. Just enter "linux kernel source" in google.

You could try out MkDistro, I think it does somewhat what you say you're trying to do.... I've never used it so I can't speak for how well it works, but it's always worth a try. I wouldn't suggest playing with the source unless you really know what you're doing, but if that's more what you're looking for, check the sites for the packages you wanna tweak.
