In add/remove software, type backup in the search box and click find.

fsarchiver, fsbackups, kbackup, Relax and Recover, sbackup ....

Of course, but you said you were a newbie.

Do you want to recreate what others have already done ?

You can make a backup of any directory with
Code:
tar -czf directory-name.tar.gz directory-name/
extract that backup with

Code:
tar -xzf directory-name.tar.gz directory-name/
but that is not a clean backup unless you delete everything in directory-name before you extract the backup.

open a terminal and type man tar
