Welcome!

Which distribution or "distro" are you using (Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, Slackware, etc.?), so we can give you accurate instructions? Which websites or resources have you used so far to find answers?

Linux users need to beleive in the magic of RTFM ...

Please try man yum , google around for yum , try something on on the console. Come back with an error message.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux.

Assuming that's RHEL 6.1, it should have been automatically setup at install.
NOTE: you have to pay to register RHEL systems with RH in order to get support & updates.
If you have not done so, you won't get either.
If you won't/can't pay , use Centos instead; a binary compatible free rebuild.
With this, you get updates (no regn reqd), but not support.

Since you are paying Red Hat $299+ per year for the required subscription, you can contact their support to help with these questions... this is what you are paying all that money for, yes??

Anyway I will assume that you have your Red Hat 6 Deployment Guide nearby as a handy reference resource. The instructions you are looking for are covered in Chapter 6.1: Checking For and Updating Packages and/or Chapter 7.1: Updating Packages with Software Update.

Let me know if you have specific questions after reading those chapters and trying the commands within.
