How to make a application icon on desktop?

I have installed the firefox browser, but everytime I need go to menu and click "run application" to choose the firebox. Finally it will be open.
Any method I can put the shortcut or... to the desktop? It is like the windows shortcut.

Mine is located at /usr/bin/firefox. If yours is too, you can open konqueror (or similar) browse to /usr/bin/firefox. When you get there, just drag the file to your desktop and choose "link here".
If you can't find your firefox, at the console do "whereis firefox".

find where your firefox binary lies. On your desktop right click your mouse. Then 'Create New --> link to application'.Check the tabs . On the 'Execute' tab browse to your firefox binary. On the 'General' tab, click on the icon browse to the firefox icon in the right directory.Click Ok.

should work. works for me on my RH9

Where can I find hot icons (in .png format perhaps?) to go with apps?
