how to login as root. (simple question. I think)
Hi,
I'm new in town. I installed mandrake 9.1 on my computer. I have a single user account defined. The moment I open the computer I have an immediate login. But when I logout and login again only then it shows a single user to choose (and the following action is typing password). Now, how can I login as a root? I have only one user which has a limited ability. Did I missed anything in installation? Do I need to configure something in my OS. Thanks |
Welcome to LQ.
When logged in as your user open up a console/terminal and type: su - Then your root password. |
I don't use mandrake anymore, but I'll try to help: go to configuration - KDE - system - login manager and then make sure root is not listed as hidden. I think this is the default if you choose "standard" security. Michael <edit>Sorry david_ross simultaneous post - doing it by su - is better if it will work!</edit> |
