How to log in as root user
I need to log in as root user to edit a file and i can't. If i go to switch user and do it in a new session all it does is open up YaST. So I can't get into KDE as a root user, how do i do this. (i am using SuSE by the way.

You open up a console (xterm, terminal, konsole ... )
and type su -<enter> followed by roots password. Cheers, Tink |
or when you're using an X loader type root as username and your password in the password section. The gdm has to be configured to allow the root to log in, dont know about other x loaders.

sometimes u need to just restart the comp after u do wut tink said and it ussualy coms up + if u try to access yast it will prompt for root pass y dont u just put in there?

And just because SuSE is lame you may need to use 'sux -' instead of just 'su -'.
(sorry still scratching my head as to why they even need sux) |
