How to load Debian
 

I am trying to load Debian 3.0r4 Woody. It is a fresh format on the hard drive. It will have NO micro&soft on it. It is I386. I have plenty of space on the drive.

Has someone made a disk, or a tutorial, etc., that will set up partitions and swap file area automatically? When I was trying to set it up, it wanted those, but did not tell how to make them, or what size to make each, or what to title them.

If you feel uncomfortable with partitioning and things like that, yet you want a debian install, you should try a debian variant like ubuntu. It is newbie friendly, easy install, and you can get your feet wet with debian. Otherwise, below is the link for the install instructions for debian, just follow them.

I want to do the full Debian, and will go there to try to do it. It is not that I am uncomfortable, but confused on what I have seen so far.

You said you want to install Debian 3.0r4(Woody)?
I cant see the point of doing that since the newer version(Sarge) is available and it has been announced stable for quite some time :)
Somemore, the installer for Woody is known to be difficult for newbies. I think the installer for Sarge has been more brushed up and easier to use.

Koyi is correct the 3.1 installer will automatically set up the partitions for you.

Where I ordered the disks from, did have the 3.1 listed, but did not have that it was a stable version. They did have the Woody listed as stable.

Where are the different versions listed as to which is later, (Sarge, Woody, etc), like which is earliest and which is final?

Sarge is stable........ woody is OLD......very very OLD

One should go for installation of Sarge since it is declared as stable. The installer is quiet good for new ones. It will set up everything. To know more about the debian releases http://www.debian.org/releases/
