how to load a bootable cd
 
i am a n00b to linux so please don't laugh

i am running windows xp and i downloaded P.H.L.A.K and burned it to a cd using nero but uh....how do i load it ? i poped it in and restarted my comp and nothing, what do i do?

when your computer is starting up go into your system bios. on my computer it is either F1 or F2. in your bios you can set the boot device priority. make your cd-rom drive the first choice.

i know what bios is but how do i get to the bios screen....

A common mistake is just burning the ISO file. If you view the contents of the CD and you do not see some directories or files then you will need to create another CD.

Accessing the BIOS setup screen varies between PC's and motherboards. The common methods are pressing the DEL, F1,F2 or F12 key during POST. Some early DELL models are ctrl-enter(or something similar). Most POSTs will display a message during the memory test on how to enter the configuration page.
