How to Leave Gnome for terminal

The nVidia drivers require that I run the installer from a terminal but not inside of gnome/kde. My default login is GUI and I need to stop X and go back to a terminal.
How would I do this?

Thank you in advance!

(Running RHEL4/gnome)
