How to install VLC and Skype lib files?

hi,

im using ubuntu 12.04 LTS. having issue when going to install vlc, SMplayer and skype.
how to install dependences?

apt-get upgrade
apt-get update

i've tried these commands but still getting lib* error.. where can i download dependences of there software...
