how to install redhat rpm from command line.

right i've inherited a linux box running on a virtual server and need to run an install application which requires a browser to run.

i've spent the last day reading stuff and trying to install a browser getting various errors such as no display.

i've tried to install gnome but when i run the ./configure i get no acceptable cc found in $path

downloaded a copy of firefox and when i run the ./firefox-installer i get Gtk warning .. cannot open display.

please help !

install a rpm from commandline via:

rpm -ihv paketname.rpm

the display error comes probably from the "wrong" user environment.
has your box X installed?

You cant install Gnome with out X installed. I got X from here ... ftp://ftp.xfree86.org, it is found in the directory /pub/XFree86/3.3.3.1/binaries. Visit the web site http://www.xfree86.org/.

hope this will help.
