FC5 is beyond EOL (End Of Life) and is no longer supported. There will not be any new updates for it of any kind. Consider switching to a supported version. Fedora 10 was released just a short time ago and it will have support for approximately 13 months (like all Fedora versions).

Dear Sir,
Today I installed Fedora 9 Sulphur on my system from dvd in 10GB hard drive. But it is unfortunate that my system has become terribly slow when I connected to internet. It nearly taking 5 minutes to open any website. Some times it hangs. Previously when I worked with fedora core 5 the internet connection speed is superb. Please tell me how to increase the speed of the internet connection speed.

Also I have trouble in installing the real player in fedora 9 . First I have downloaded and installed compat libstdc ++-33.After I have downloaded realplayer11gold . But I couldnot install it. When I tried to double click the downloaded icon I am getting that there is no player to open it. I don't know what is it. Please help me in this regard.

My system configuration is the following:
80 gb hard disc, 256 ram ,pentiun 4 processor 2.98Ghz

If any information is needed I am ready to give.
Yours

One possibility is that you need to disable IPv6 support. It may be a delay with DNS queries. Your system could use more ram.

Isn't RealPlayer11 gold a windows commercial product?

Another possibility is that just after an install, the updatedb and beagle indexers may be indexing your hard drive. After they finish, only new files need to be indexed and don't slow down the system as much.

the very low amount of system ram is why it is SO slow.

you will also need MORE than 256 meg ram .I am very surprised that the fedora install dvd even used the gui to install .Or did it not?
most modern OS's will like to have 1 gig of ram ( vista - 2 gig min.)
also 9 gig is the bare minimum size to install on .That 10GB Hard drive will fill up VERY VERY fast and the system will fail to boot.
