How to install OOo1.1.1 for all users?
Hi!
I installed succesfully OOo.1.1.1 in Red Hat 9 but it seems that if I set up for user A (./setup) it installs more than 200Meg of files. If I create a new user or use an existing one, I still have to re-setup and it is another 200Meg of files... Is there a way to install once in root and have the programme installed and ready for all users just like it is when installing RPMs? Thank you. Michel |
Dunno about with rpms but if you download and unpack the tar.gz file from openoffice.org then as root you just type ./setup -net (or summat like that, tis in the readme file) then it installs the system. To setup for each user you then run the ./setup from the installed directory.
See here anyway http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/instructions.html |

I installed the openoffice when I isntalled my RH9.0 on my workstation but every time I try to run any of the modules It just sitts there for a minute or so as the HD churns the nothing. Tried reinstalling from the download but still nothing. any suggestions?

HI!
First of all, thanks to Chris. I did what you say and it works perfectly. Concerning Rick's problem, I experienced the openoffice which is with RH 9 and I found it very very slow to start, especially with low RAM. So what I suggest is to remove the OOO1.0.2 and replace it with the new OOO1.1.1 which is great. It loads defenitely much faster and there are nice new features. To remove openoffice, open a shell and type rpm -e openoffice (as root) and install the new version as Chris has explained. Good luck. Michel |
