Post How to install older gcc over an existing gcc


Hi..

I am using Suse linux 10 currently I have gcc 4.1.2.. I want to install gcc 3.4.2 ... Can anyone suggest me the way to do...

1) You can have two or more compilers installed at the same time.
I often have four or five different on some Linux OS.
2) It's not a good idea to replace or remove the system compiler.
Please don't do that.

GCC-3.4.2 :
ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/unix/language...-3.4.2.tar.bz2
tar xvf gcc-3.4.2.tar.bz2 && mkdir build-gcc && cd build-gcc/
Code:
../gcc-3.4.2/configure --prefix=/usr/gcc342 --enable-shared --enable-threads=posix --enable-__cxa_atexit --enable-clocale=gnu --enable-languages=c,c++
make ; su ; # make install
cd /usr/bin/
# ln -s /usr/gcc342/bin/gcc gcc342
# ln -s /usr/gcc342/bin/g++ g++342
exit
And you can then do : 'gcc342 -v'
