How to Install IMAP on CentOS 5.2?

I think I need to recompile PHP with imap?

- But where can I find this PHP folder?
- how do I maintain the compiled elements (by doing phpinfo(); right?) and simply add imap support?
- I read somewhere I need "washington edu imapd libraries" first?

This is making my head spin @_@ lol i just need to install imap but there's so many things to do!

Can someone point me to the right direction.. thanks in advance!!

IMAP is a protocol not a program, to support it you would need a daemon capable of receiving imap requests and mail being sent to the server using the daemon. Typically php has nothing to do with imap what so ever and phpinfo() shows what options are compiled into your php, nothing more.

I think you might get a more useful answer if you just explained what you're trying to do in general.

Thanks for trying to help.. I have a php script that needs to connect to an email via IMAP. How would I get PHP to connect to the email?

Some background info:
I have a dedicated server (where the PHP Script is) and it's trying to connect to an email address hosted by dreamhost.com

Thanks again!

edit: I think I may have resolved the issue: install php-imap!
