How to install Google Earth?

So i went to earth.google.com and downloaded GoogleEarth.bin (.bin??) and then i wanted to run it but it said open with.. thing. Ok, so i opened terminal and did ./GoogleEarth.bin but then it said command not found

Quote:

creep@creepy-desktop:~/Desktop$ sudo ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin
[sudo] password for creep:
sudo: ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin: command not found
1) What's .bin? Why is it bin?
2) How do i run it?

Looks as though the file is not in the location you think it is.
From your terminal do:
ls -l

The results should include GoogleEarth.bin

Sometimes when downloading files you have to make them executable, so try
chmod 755 GoogleEarth.bin

bin is short for binary a program file. Once the google earth binary starts to run it will take you through rest of the installation. You are running the program correct way, the problem is the file is either not executable or in a different location
Hope that helps

first make it executable

Code:

chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin
./GoogleEarthLinux.bin

BTW, you can install this as user.

Thanks, it wasn't executable. Why would google give me a non-executable installer?

What's chmod +x ?? don't i have to type numbers like chmod 123 ?

GoogleEarthLinux.bin will install google earth on your system.
it is textbased, so you need to run it from terminal.
