Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

hi all i need some help installing gimp onto my laptop, i am clearly a little useless. i have tried the apt-get install gimp that is says on the gimp download page but all i get is an error message in the terminal saying :
E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (13: Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?
what do i do? can anybody help? thank you
thank you man... i seem to have run into another problem... i got to the password part and typed it in but nothing came up on the screen so i pushed enter and it said command not found. now the sudo apt-install gimp says command not found. what can i do? (i thank you for your time and your patience, i'm new and it is hard.)
In Linux, it is very important to get your terminal commands correct. A typo can screw up your entire system (especially if it has 'sudo' at the start of it). So please type carefully, or even better, use copy & paste!
