Question How to install Cinnamon with SLiM on Arch Linux?

Hi everybody!

I have recently installed Arch Linux and since I'm new to hard it's a little hard to get around the things in here.

I wanted to know how I can instal cinnamon desktop environment with SliM display manager.

By now, I know how to install Arch system and boot into the root account. I have also installed the system X and currently I'm able see the basic GUI using:

Code:
     startx
I installed cinnamon and slim using:

Code:
 # pacman -S cinnamon
     # pacman -S slim
The problem, now, is that I don't know how to configure both the programs to start at boot.

Did you follow all the steps in the wiki for slim?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Slim

Would seem to cover all the questions.

Or if you are not up for the task, you can always install ArchBang...

Yes I read the Wiki but it didn't help this time. Whenever the session manager starts a black screen comes up and then nothing happens.

Session manager ... so slim is starting and you are logging in?

I think you need to provide more information as you are not telling us what you have or have not done?

Now, I tried installing the whole system again and configured everything properly (as far as I could understand). Now, I am able to log into Cinnamon using my root account but then non root users are still not able to log into Cinnamon interface.

Additionally: I just wanted to ask how I can customize Cinnamon. If you could possibly point me at a guide, it would be great!

Alright! So I finally got the problem.

At first, I was missing my video card driver due to which I was not able to start any GUI.

Second, I didn't notice the fact that ~/.xinitrc file is not global - i.e., it is different for every user. I had created one for my root user but not for my non-root users.

Now, I'm able to log into DEs normally. Gonna try other DEs too. Thanks for the help guys!
