How to install Applications?

First of all hi, I'm new about Linpus Linux.
IDK how to install some Application, like Yahoo Messenger, Utorrent.
Those program that I indicate are sample programs that I want to install in.
Please help me. Thanks.

Assuming you're on fedora as that silly little icon suggests run "yum install pidgin" as root (open a terminal and run "su -" then enter the root password) for a chat client which supports YahooooooOooooooOOOOO!!!!111 and as for bittorrent clients, there are loads available, but I can't recommend a good one. if you run "yum search bittorrent" you'll get a list of all applications for bitorrent so you can have a look.

Alternatively all this stuff is accessible via the software installation gui in the system administration menu.

Note that you can't install windows software directly, this is NOT windows, it doesn't run windows software. There are always siutable functional equivalents though.

Thank you for reply sir.
Can you tell me the step by step for installation?

acid_kewpie 02-01-2010 02:37 AM

i just did. it's that easy.

hikaru1207 02-01-2010 02:42 AM

IDK where to find the "yum install pidgin"

acid_kewpie 02-01-2010 02:54 AM

As I said, open a terminal and run "su -" then enter the root password

You do not say what computer you are using.

The Acer One uses Linpus Linux and this might help: "Add Apps to the Acer Aspire one" - http://www.laptopmag.com/Advice/how-...ps.aspx?step=1

The programs you mention, Yahoo Messenger and Utorrent, are NOT Linux programs. They are Windows programs. Do not try to load them. Find Linux equivalents e.g Pidgin and Azureus/Vuze.

(There is an old and useless Linux Yahoo Messenger but don't touch it!)

hikaru1207 02-01-2010 03:20 AM

this is what I'm looking for. Thank you.
So it means I can't install Yahoo Messenger in Linpus?

arochester 02-01-2010 03:42 AM

If you use a program like Pidgin, and you give it some details, you will be able to see your Yahoo! contacts.

hikaru1207 02-01-2010 03:54 AM

Oh I see, I'll download it.
What about torrent? Those programs Azureus/Vuze support linux?

sohail0399 02-01-2010 04:29 AM

same procedure as installing pidgin

first search

yum search torrent

then

yum install <what-u-find>

hikaru1207 02-01-2010 04:47 AM

I didn't get it. xD

where should I type that code?

sohail0399 02-01-2010 05:09 AM

if you search and installed it successfully.

yum search <package>

yum install <package>

then its not only download but also install it.

now you need to use this application.

arochester 02-01-2010 05:10 AM

If you have installed Pidgin from the Package Manager look in your Menu to see if it is there.

If you can't find it open a Terminal again and input: pidgin

...it should start

I don't know linpus, but maybe you can also try the wine - windows emulator. It works excelent for me in fedora 10 and I will try it also in F12. If you have a dual system on the computer (win and linux) there are some win programs that can be run from linux with wine. I think that also you can install some win programs in linux with wine.
Just google it for wine and see what you get....
That, of course, if you are still in live with some win programs.
:)

Oh christ no. Leave Wine for another day. Or year. It's the very last thing a new Linux users needs to know exists.

anika.ella 02-01-2010 06:54 AM

OK...
:D

When I installing the Pidgin it says "Error Resolving Dependencies"
and the azereus I install it completely but I don't know how to use it.

hikaru1207 02-01-2010 08:34 AM

Can you give me another app for chatting that can open YM except for Pidgin.

acid_kewpie 02-01-2010 09:38 AM

if you're getting dependency issues, you're doing something wrong, are you using yum and online at the time?

Other clients, just google. very quick to find what's available just like for windows.

hikaru1207 02-01-2010 11:53 PM

Alright I get it. But why I'm always disconnected when I'm logging in. But my ISP is good with another computer unit. urrg. Can't receive any PM's from my friends.
