how to install and update software from Redhat network.

As the subject says it all. i need to configure my production system to install and update softwares from Redhat network.

what are the initial steps that i need to do above.

linux systems must also be connected to internet right?

Please provide which version you are using ?

If you purchased Red Hat, then Red Hat would be the best source of information. If you didn't purchase it, then you probably have a trial version. If you want the free version of Red Hat, it is CentOS.

No. It depends upon what you want to do. Most Linux distributions keep software on servers and you need an internet connection to download from these repositories.

If you want to get online updates from the RedHat network, then you'd obviously need a network connection, and an Internet connection, so you could attach to it. There ARE ways, as yancek pointed out, that will let you not have a direct internet connection, but you would need SOME server (RedHat satellite server), that you could reach on your network. That server will essentially be a mirror to the external RedHat network.

If you're using RedHat enterprise, then you need to CALL REDHAT SUPPORT, since you're paying for it with your RHEL subscription. If you're not, then you probably won't be able to get updates/patches/etc.
