Im having rouble in finding a driver for my modem. Since I am a newbie, I dont know how to install a modem driver on linux. I am currently using Fedora core 5.

Welcome to LQ. I am not totally sure, but I believe your modem is one of the dreaded "Windmodems" (software driven). If so you will get some answers here:

From what you have posted, I'm not sure what type of modem you have, or the make and model.

Have a look through this document. Pay attention to section 2, it explains what a win modem is. My guess is that is what you have.

If it is a hardware modem, you do not need a driver. If it's a winmodem, you may have trouble finding a driver.

I'm using Linux now for long time, so long that I not even know which distro I started with.

But if you have hardware which is specifically made for an operating system you not have to look weird if it doesn't work with other operating systems.

Winmodems (or as 3com calls them Softmodems) do not work with Linux or any other OS (including Microsoft Windows Vista which is another story). Yes some drivers are available, but then still it is still always the problem key in the chain of stability.

So go to the nearest computer shop or talk to your telecom company (many give away free ADSL modems) and get upgraded to high-speed ADSL or buy a “old” analog “hardware” modem which you will not use for longer then 1 or 2 months.
