Unhappy how to install a suitable wine version on UBUNTU 12.10 ?

Hi !
I am a poor lonesome guy with a very bad internet connection !( HUAWEI USB WIRELESS DONGLE!)
I am trying to install WM WARE so that i can run virtual machines on UBUNTU 12.10!I am not a programmer just an unlucky newbie !
So I am trying to install wine MANUALLY ( too bad internet connection to update with software centre!)
I have downloaded several WINE VERSIONS but I am unable to install them ( I am on a DELL VOSTRO with an AMD 64 architecture). I solved the 32 bit development libraries with debootstrap ( I THINK...). Till then no progress !So please you are my LAST HOPE !

So, I'm confused. Why install it manually when you can simply do sudo apt-get install wine? The internet connection should have no bearing on that.

If you can get a better connection on another machine you could download the wine .deb and install it with dpkg

yea just using your system package manager and install wine.

sudo apt-get install wine

your packagemanger will verify the package and download it in bits in pieces if it has to. aptitude does a great job of this. Which is one of the reason dpkg one of my favorite package managers. Personally I add the ppa from teh winehq.org website and get theres though. Its a bit later and I found it works better on some windows apps. Either way it goes using your package manager will make your life far easier. Compiling wine can be a hassel to get working right unless you know what your doing.
