How to increase/Decrease Local Virtual consoles?

I m tring to figure out the option where i can increase/Decrease the count for local virtual consoles(vtys).

I can able to take upto 6 vtys using (left alt+(F1-F6))

But is there any way i can increase the count ?

One more query

They are created by /etc/inittab where you can change the number of them. X starts after the highest numbered.

Hello ping,

First take the backup of /etc/inittab file using:

#cp /etc/inittab /root

Now open the /etc/inittab file and copy the following line :

1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty3
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty5
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty6

and paste it below the above last line and change the numbers as shown below:

1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1
2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2
3:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty3
4:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty4
5:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty5
6:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty6
7:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty7
8:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty8
9:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty9
10:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty10

Now save the file and restart the system.

After restart you can login in to increased terminals by pressing ALT+Function key combinations.
