How to identify a winmodem
 
well I have winmodem and I want 2 change it 2 a real modem ,... but how can I know if this is a winmodem or not?

ohh yes... there is any-way 2 make Linux (I use R Linux onXP) being unreadable from windows

Winmodems are modems that require drivers to operate correctly. You try to see if www.linmodems.org has anything that may help you.

If it doesn't have jumper settings for changing com ports then its usually driver based.

Unfortunately, virtually all modem sold these days are
WinModems. I just recently helped one guy install his
WinModem. He went back to Fry's (bay area) to
exchange his WinModem for a Modem, but Fry's only
had WinModem. You might want to look at the list
(I don't know where) of WinModem driver your linux
distribution has, and stick with those WinModems.
