How to I find my machine name (in SuSE 9.2)?

This has got to be my dumbest question. I'm trying to supply a machine name do I can make a command alias in my sudoers file. I have no idea how the name is made, what file it's stored in, or whether I have to name the computer myself (or how I do that). My computer is not networked, just has a dialup modem.

I have no clue what you are trying to do, but your computers name is stored in /etc/HOSTNAME. Changes can be applied via 'YaST -> Network devices -> Network Card -> Change -> Edit -> Host name and DNS', or manually. On a standalone PC, you have to name it yourself, some systems receive the name via DHCP.

Actually, in SuSE, the /etc/HOSTNAME file only contains the first two parts of a three part hostname. /etc/hosts contains the entire three part name.
