how to handle *.img file?

I just installed xcdroast software in my Linux machine. After I copy a tar file to the CD, I found out the file it created is *.img file. But I don't know how to bring it back to the original format. Please let me know what should I do to this *.img file, thanks!

well xcdroast (which is a horrendous application... try eroaster) will create an image file which is a cdrom file system as a file. you would then copy this image to the cdrom as an image, not as a file. have you somehow got this image file burned onto the cd as a normal file? i'd guess you're using the application wrong. try something better

Chris:

Thanks for the reply. Actually they did create some image file and write to the CD. The question I have is I try to read the image file back to the hard drive. It showed the *.img file. I don't know how to get back to the original file format. Please let me know if you know the answer. Thanks.

By the way, you think eroaster is better application than xcdroast? Probalby I should try eroaster.
