How to get my system to record TV (viewing with zapping a.o. works great)

Hi, I have been searching around a lot already, but just cannot find any way (it is probably simple) to get my PC to record TV.
I have a analog ( used WinTV on windowsXP) card which works just fine with viewing with for example Zapping and TV-Time. I tried using more different programs which say they are recording but... they just don't find the TV somehow (telling there is no tuner).
Maybe I'm just running circles for days (with brakes) to get it to work or maybe I just need some little push in the right direction.
Using Ubuntu 11.10, the device is in /dev/video0 (at least it seems to be, using Zapping).
I tried Me-Tv and also MythTV and some other programs but keep getting the same issues like 'no tuner found'.

If there are just some command-lines needed for recording on mpeg when I select the channel with zapping, that would help a lot too.

Thanks.
