How to get my Epson DX8450 to print

Hi Folks,

I am quite new to Linux and am used to software installing itself. I cannot get my Epson DX8450 to print. Some of the explanations are difficult for a newcomer to understand. Is there an easy way, or do I have to plough through all the complicated stuff?

Good to be part of the group.

See http://hivernal.org/static/computing...dx8450.en.html

That is not very hard.

If you are on Ubuntu, you open synaptic....add the suggested repository...get the packages ...configure on a GUI.

What is your distribution?

Hi Amani,

Thanks for this information. I am going to try to work this out, but as I said I am completely new to Linux. I don't know how I open synaptic, or how to add a suggested repository. Where do I get the packages from and how do I configure on a GUI?

My distribution is Ubuntu 6.

Any extra help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Neville

You should have Synaptic in the KDE/GNOME menu. If you can't find it, open a terminal (konsole, xterm or similar program) and type in "synaptic" and press enter. It should start. Then you can add the repository (listed in "Using apt-get") and install the software. Alternatively, if you don't want to use synaptic for some reason, you can do the whole thing manually. You'll need a text editor, where you should open /etc/apt/sources.list (note that you need to be root to be able to save that file!).

If something's unclear, just ask.

Hi Mara,

Thank you so much. I have managed to load a printer driver that works partly!! It prints the black charachters ok but not the coloured ones. I ashume this is because it ws not the right driver for the printer. There was no driver in the list for my Epson. It seems no one has produced a driver for this printer yet that will work with Linux I think I will just try each of the other drivers in turn until I find one that works. Iĺl let you know how I get on.

Regards,

Neville

Printer problem fixed

Hi Everyone,

Just to let you know my Epson DX8450 printer is now working from Linux. With the help of others I finally was able to load the driver that works with it. There does not seem to be a dedicated driver for my printer, but by trial and error I eventually found the Linux driver for the DX4800 works. I hope this is a help to others.

Regards
