how to get internet connection

Sir I am new to Linux.I installed ubuntu 9.10.I am from India I use ADSL
router to get connection in XP windows through WAN main port PPPoE.But after installing Ubuntu 9.10 I could not find my internet connected to
Mozill Firefox in Ubuntu 9.10.
SO please tell me a way how to establish internet connection in Ubuntu 9.10 in a detaled way.thanking You

Hey you mentioned ADSL router. Can you switch ADSL router to be in a router mode?
That way you won't have to do anything with your Linux, just setting ip address.

+1 to what unsigned_nerd wrote -- using the ADSL modem router as a router is a lot easier and more secure than running PPoE from your computer. Which ADSL router are you using and which is your ISP? The procedure to set it up as a router is almost certainly on the Internet somewhere.
