How to gain **write-access** to windows xp files?

Hi,
I have recently managed to install Mandrake 10.1 on a dual-boot machine with Windows XP. What I want to do is be able to modify/create files in windows from within linux (i.e. get write-access to /mnt/windows). Currently I can only have read-only access to /mnt/windows. I can copy the files from /mnt/windows to some linux directory and then modify it there but then I cannot paste this modified file back in windows (i.e. in /mnt/windows)

Does anyone know if it is possible to get write-access to windows xp files while in linux? I think the problem is because windows xp is NFAT and linux doesn't write to NFAT, but I'm not sure about this.

Any help is most appreciated.

Cheers,

Write access is disabled in most Linux distros by default for licensing inssues and you know how Microsoft doesn't want anyone to get in their way... Anyways, write to NTFS (not NFAT, that doesn't exist) in Linux is extremely unstable and it's foolish to even consider it. However, there is the more stable "unofficial" module called captive-ntfs, which uses drivers from Windows. I use captive-ntfs myself but I find read support good enough

Thanks for that, I think I'll just forget about the write-access to windows xp business and just use my usb stick to transfer file to windows

Cheers,

If you have the space, you can make a FAT32 partition that you can safely read and write to from Windoze and Linux.
