How to fix my Linux Mint Installation ISO

Good evening folks,

I wanted to finally switch to Linux Mint today since I'm absolutely fed up with Windows and all of it's annoyances. Long story short, my experience with LM is not much better so far.

I downloaded LM 17.2 Cinnamon and burned the iso (md5 is correct) to my usb stick (and 2 others in case they could be broken... they aren't ^^) and then booted it. It boots, then goes into the boot Splashscreen for a few seconds until it the splash goes away and a friendly console informs me about the fact that there was an error with the "scheduling from the idle thread". Since I cannot copy the error or screenshot it, I unfortunately cannot provide more info.

The only thing I could gather from one hour of unnerved googling is this rather unhelpful launchpad bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/eilt/+bug/959604

"Launchpad Janitor" states that the bug was fixed in the package "linux-armadaxp" on version 3.2.0-1605.8.

So I tried to find a download for that packet and I found an Ubunutu Page providing the packet: http://packages.ubuntu.com/uk/source...linux-armadaxp

Since LM is a fork of Ubuntu, I guess that might work?

Well here is my question: Can I use that packet and if yes, where do I have to put it in my downloaded iso so I can boot LM (if that is possible, after all)?

This all wouldn't be such a problem if I at least got a console to work with.

Thanks very much for your help and patience with me and my extraordinary problems

~nyjan

Welcome to LQ!
Tell us more about the architecture of the system.

Windows what?
UEFI/EFI bios?
32 or 64 Bit processor?
Intel/AMD/ARM/other?
What kind of Video Card, exactly? Integrated or a addon card?

That bug link is 2.5 years old and I don't think it applies. And I don't think you can use it. But I could be wrong.
Have you tried for grins and giggles any of the other USBs you made?
Try or tried LinuxMint Mate maybe or 17.1...?

Thanks for your reply, Habitual!

Well I am running Win10 Pro right now,
I'm using an UEFI motherboard (althrough LM does not boot when loading in bios mode, either)
64 bit,
Intel CPU
And two nVidia Desktop cards.
(specific part list below)

I have tried to burn LM to 3 UBS sticks, wouldn't help.
Just to be sure, I burned a copy of Ubuntu 15.04 to a stick, works like a charm, so the issue is LM.

I'd be great if there was annother way than downloading LM 17.1, etc. since a download of 1.5GB takes me around 3-5 hours...
But if there is no other way...

Still, thanks a lot

~nyjan

Part list:
Asus Maximus VII Hero (Z97 chipset and UEFI)
Intel Core i7 4790k
2x Gainward GTX 780 w/ 6GB vram (Not that that info/bravado would matter)
-> I can provide more specific info if needed.

Well I'm already used to having problems like this all the time...
I'm now downloading LM 17.1, maybe that'll work better.

Still, if anyone has an idea, please post it!

And thanks for your help, Habitual

You are welcome.
I hope 17.1 works better for you.
I use it and it "just works".
