Question How to Exe... Programs????

I'm brand new to linux and I installed Mandrake 9.2.. Got it up and running and then downloaded Mozilla Firebird 0.7. I extracted all the files and now the problem is I dont know how to execute this program. I went to the directory and I see a lots of files and dirs.. Which file should I open and how do I do it....
A little help would be greatly appriciated...

Thanks....

when you untarred the .tar.gz it made a new folder. Say it is in your home directory type

~/MozillaFirebird/MozillaFirebird

you can substitute ~ for what directory it is in

i'm not 100% sure, but try and open a shell and change to superuser with
su -
type in the admisistrative passwords. goto the dir. with the extracted files and try

./confi <hit tab> and hopefully it will complete it or ./install , then hit enter

then again you may have to compile it first, if you can get the rpm version of firebird; if there is that is.

If you downloaded the binary package then just open up a terminal, cd into the directory then run
./MozillaFirebird

Firebird is downloaded as a binary executable. No compiling necessary.

If you don't like the fonts with the version you downloaded you might try this one
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...tk2+xft.tar.gz
