How to enter the boot prompt for Red Hat 5.3 kick start.

Hi
I have ks.cfg and file.iso burned to a DVD. Both files are at the root of the DVD. Besides that, I also created a folder and keep some drivers in the folder.

I inserted the CD and reboot the server ( which already has a red hat 5.3 that I installed before, I want to erase it using kick start ).

Howver, I just can't get into the much said "boot prompt".

Do we need to press certain hot key during certain stage of reboot?

This question is laughable and embarrasing..please help.

I'm not sure but try to press left shift for a few times and check out if pressing escape when the line "boot prompt" appear.

I am clear of what you are saying here. Is the system not checking the cd/dvd drive when booting? Check your bios settings. Maybe you have the hard drive set as the first boot device. Change it so that it picks your cd/dvd drive as the first boot device.

Hi, yes you need to verify under bios, is the boot sequence configured to try booting from CD/DVD media, if this is setup correctly and system tries to first boot from CD/DVD but not able to boot from it, then you need to verify if the DVD you burned is bootable or not.

As you mentioned that you placed ks.cfg,a folder on the DVD and also burned ISO, how you did it? You modified the ISO to include ks.cfg and folder and then you burned iso to the disk?

Try booting any other system with same disk if another system is able to boot from the same disk.

Thanks,
Pkhera

I was so delighted by the response I got from all of you.

The answer is .... man.. so darn embarrassing..

I burned the iso file as a file, instead of disk image..

after I reburned it, the colorful screen appeared with boot prompt on the bottom.

Thank you all. I think my case is worth a good laugh.
