Red face How to enable pendrive in linux


I've installed fedora 8 in my system. i've tried to mount my usb drive. but it's doesn't work out. i followed the following procedure.

#mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt

but now i don't even get the drive as sdb or sdc. i don't know why. kindly help me out.

how do u know the driver is /dev/sdb1?
Do you have any usb icons on your desktop?
Have u tried as a user?
Just check it out with "fdisk -l" command?

More Information Needed!

Isn't that annoying? It says clearly on the screen where you write your post NOT to do that.

Provide the following INFO to help us help you by posting the output of these commands AFTER you insert the pencildrive.
  • Code:
    dmesg | tail
  • Code:
    mount

Then, and only then, will we be able to help you.

Please follow directions and be nice, for others to help and be nice back.

Have you tried executing "lsusb" as root to ensure that the pendrive can be seen?

Why are you mounting to /mnt and not a specific location (/mnt/pendrive)?

What is your error message (if any) ?
