how to enable FTP service?
I am a newbee to solarix. I logged in as root and tried connecting ftp to myself only it says connection refused..
it looks like ftp service needs to be enabled or some hosts file should be changed like in w2k. Don't know how to do that..... Appriciate any help |
Good places to start looking:
/etc/inetd.conf /etc/ftpusers /etc/hosts.allow |
check if /etc/services file has that service enabled. also see of the ftpd or wuftpd is present on your system and is running.

Solaris has it's own FTP service. It's not ftpd or wuftpd. It's in.ftpd, and it's typically run from inetd.

you can't log into to ftp as root. You need to remove the root entry from the /etc/ftpusers file. Also make sure the ftpaccess file does not have a line denying any user with ID less than 99. If it's there comment it out (this may be in linux). Keep in mind FTP sends passwords in plain text across the network and is the reason why root is disabled by default.
