how to edit existing Makefile for a new folder that im adding

im currently working on fedora 3 and hve compiled 2.6.10 on it. Now im adding a new folder to it. First i wanted to add a new entry to the options we get after 'make menuconfig' so i made a new entry in Kconfig file. But now i also want to edit the main Makefile for my new folder and im not able to understand the Makefile...

Can some one please help me out in figuring out wat changes i need to make in the makefile???

First, Fedora 3 is ancient...Fedora 10 is the latest, it would be better to upgrade.

Second, you're adding a folder where? To what? What makefile are you editing, for what program??
