How to dump all my software from the VM to an external hard disk?

Hi there,

I have this setting: Windows7==>Oracle VB==>Ubuntu VM.

I've made a number of errors when I set it up and now the VM is starving of RAM. I want to install a Ubuntu OS on the second internal disk drive. How can I dump all my code to an external disk drive?

In the VM window on the top brim there is a tab: devices. I can see there all my external hardware, including the USB and even a webcam. I don't know how to address them.

If I could address any of them, I could try to copy directory tree to there. Then I could have loaded all the software into the new Ubuntu OS.

Any help? Thanks.

Connect the external drive if it's not connected in the VM. Then mount the external drive in the os installed inside the VM. And copy the files to external disk. Do them and ask help if stuck. Don't know your ability.

veerain, hi. OK, I "mounted" an external flash memory stick (8 Gbt) onto Shared Folders in VirtualBox/Settings/Shared Folders section. First I mounted it into Transient Folders and tried to look for a way to find it in the VM and somehow address it. No avail. Then I mounted the same memory stick into Machine Folders section but that mount disappeared after I closed the Setting window. So, now I have this Transient Folders Mount but I don't know how to use it.

I also restarted the VM, again with no visible change. A.

In the lower right hand corner of your virtual machine you should see a set of icons [hdd, cd, usb flash, etc] (see screenshot). The third icon from the left is for attached USB devices. Right click on the icon and select the device you wish to attach to the guest. This will detach the USB device from the host and attach it to a guest. From there you should be able to mount it from inside of the guest.
