APT is what you need to know then.

Remember APT it your friend.

APT is the package manager of Debian based distribution (like ubuntu)

how to use it?
To update the package list:
Code:
apt-get update
To search a package:
Code:
apt-cache search WHAT-YOU-ARE-LOOKING-FOR
Ex:
Code:
#apt-cache search mysql server
mysql-client-5.1 - MySQL database client binaries
mysql-server - MySQL database server (metapackage depending on the latest version)
#apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client-5.1
You are done

PS: If you use APT to install packages, you will need to be root.
Angel.

Perhaps you mean install, rather than download? You shouldn't use the terms interchangeably, as they mean different things.

You should look at the Ubuntu documentation, which from what I've seen is quite detailed.
