How to disable the hover (menu) item in Gnome

How can I disable the freaking hover "thing" in Gnome. Im thinking of the litle menu thing that you get if you hold the mouse over the close button (X in upper right hand corner).

And some one fire that guy that came up with the idea!

If you're thinking about the tooltips, you can modify gtkrc file within your home directory or in the /usr/local/share/themes or similar directory. Also, you can use Gnome configuration editor and uncheck /apps/panel/global/tooltips_enabled.

In the current version of GNOME, AFAIK, there is no way to turn off tool-tips on the panel. There are some hacks possible, but these depend on the distribution in question and usually do not apply to other distributions. Ubuntu's solution gconf-editor > apps > panel > global > uncheck tooltips _enabled might fail on your Debian system. Anyway, maybe http://geekybits.blogspot.com/2007/0...-tooltips.html gives you a hint.
