How To Detect and Install Modem

Hello,

I have a Compaq Armada 110 Laptop.

There is a Win Lucent Modem on Com3.

How Do I Get Linux Mandrake 10.1 to detect it and how do I set it up?

Thanks!

Here is a mandrake package page -- http://rpms.mandrakeclub.com/rpms/ma...1mdk.i586.html

Or you can look for ltmodem on google. Either way you need to use this to get it all rolling.

Thanks for the help--did a Google and when I searched for ltmodem found exactly what I needed!

However, when I downloaded zipped files and used Arc to extract them, Arc crashed...

Any way to make Arc behave--Do I Have to login as root to get it to work properly?

Or is there a better way to unzip files and install them?

strange that arc crashed . . . or isn't it ark?

Hello,

Changed direction and found this web-site which appears to be EXACTLY what I'm looking for:

http://www.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de/heby/ltmodem/

However, the instructions seem a little cryptic for a super-newbie like me... :-)

Would you have the time to provide step-by-step instructions on how to use this site?

THANKS for everyone's help!

Sure can, go to this site http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/first.html
download this little utility & run it, it will pump out 6 or 7 pages of info & instructions in a folder called Modem in the directory where the utility resides, & it will tell you exactly which package you need from that site you found.

HELP!!!

My laptop is not set up for a dual boot--I am "not near a PC with Windows"....

Can't I just do something within Mandrake?

I sure would appreciate a little more help... :-)
