hi..im very newbie in linux. i need your help. how to make a local repository from dvd.?

As the name of the website is Linux Questions, then it would be obvious that everyone is seeking help,
therefore "help me" as a question is rather pointless, try to be more specific.
As to your actual question:

When you say "local repository" are you referring to a copy on your hard drive, a svn repository, rsync, other???

For knowing the Linux distribution you are using, type the following in your terminal (Mind the spaces in the following command) and post the output here:

i had to recently do this, you can probably change these instructions to fit your needs.
if you are using something rhel based, else some quick googlin usually gives me instructions for what i need.

Hi Chipperfield.Create a repo file under /etc/yum.repos.d/your_repo_name.repo and make the following entry.
[My_RPM]
name=CENTOS 5.3
baseurl=file:///PATH_TO_YOUR_PACKAGE_IN_DVD/
enabled=1
gpgchk=no
Make sure that repodata folder exists in the media.(It should be there,If at all you want to create a a local repository go through this link
