How to create a link in Desktop for an executable.

I am having a simple C program in /root. I want an icon in Desktop so that by clicking that the C program will be compiled and executed and shows the output in terminal.

I am using Gnome and Debian OS.

Please give me some reply.

Thanks in advance.

I have already used create launcher. But it is not working. I have given type as Application in terminal and Command as /root/program/first ("/root/program" is the path and "first" is name of the executable). But it is not working.

another thing is need so that by clicking the icon it should compile and execute the source program. I think inedd to write some script for that. How can i do it..??

Plz reply.

Is that a script? Is the executable bit set? If not, then command should be

bash /root/program/first

Thanks for the reply.
It is an executable only. I tried the command but not working. The terminal is opening and closing with no time. So i am not able to see the output.

Right click on the icon and say run in terminal. Or say sun in terminal when asked.
