How to copy text in Shell Console

too tedious to type long file name,
other than using * to help,
got any way i can copy text in that shell windows?

Highlight it with the mouse, right-click it, and go to Copy. Ctrl+C doesn't seem to work.

By default, when you highlight text, it's automatically "copied". You can paste it with the middle mouse button. If your mouse only has two buttons, a third button can be simulated by pressing both the left and right buttons simultaneously.

Thanks. Very helpful

For some reason, I am partial to shift-insert to paste text.

You can type the first few characters and use completion with [tab] so you don't have to type so much.

square selection / vertical selection in console / terminal

Hi, I could do square / vertical selection on a very very old unix machine ,
(if I remember well),

Is this still possible in a bash terminal (console, or mandriva Konsole)?
(so then it can be cut and pasted).

I know it is possible with emacs (and kwrite I think)

(a bit out of topic)
