How to connect my Acer Aspire One to internet

Hi

My sis bought two Acer Aspire One Netbooks which both run Linux. Both of these were connected to her Belkin 54g wireless connection router. Yesterday when she turned one of them on it would not connect. The little light at the bottom right is on (orange) but there is no little computers that appear in the bottom right corner. Obviously we both know nothing about Linux or even where to click or what to click on to try and make a connection. I know it may sound like something very basic but if somebody could just point us in the right direction it would make her son's day as he is very unhappy right now.
Thanks in advance
Sher

Please let us know the distribution used (Fedora, Ubuntu, openSUSE, etc.) and the desktop environment used (KDE, GNOME) if you can figure that out. If you connected once, you can connect again, but various Linux distributions have slightly different ways of doing things and knowing the version of Linux you are running would help a lot.

You also mentioned that you have two laptops. Is the other one still behaving correctly?

Does this computer have a wired ethernet port? If possible, use an Ethernet cable and plug the computer directly into the router and see if this connects. This will at least narrow down the problem to the wireless interface.

The Acer Aspire One comes with Linpus Lite as the default Linux distribution.. their website is rather dismal and uninformative, while being perpetually 'under construction'

the official community support site for the Acer AspireOne is http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/

The reason I mention that, is there will probably be more people there familiar with Linpus Lite, and it's stripped user interface..

Interesting. I never heard of Linpus before. A quick search at Distrowatch reveals it is based on Fedora and uses a KDE desktop. Looking at the screen shots revealed that the desktop resembles Fedora when run in "PC Mode," but the "Simple Mode" is somewhat reminiscent of the Eee PC--except simpler, if that is possible. With the holiday coming up, I may have time to install a copy on an old laptop and see what it looks like.

There's an icon in the tray at the bottom on the right hand side. Click on that to set-up the wifi. There's a connection manager and it should show all available networks.
