How to configure Wireless driver and connect to the internet

Hello all,
I'm new in Linux, I have installed Fedora 8, but now i want to know how to install my graphic card, mine is ATI Radeon x1300, and how to configure or install sound driver? I have viewed a lot of sites and even here, it says i must download somethings, but i cant connect to the internet using wireless. I can see the icon on the top right corner of the screen, but i cant search for networks or connect.
my laptop is Dell Inspiron 6400, wireless device IEEE 802.11g.

when I run the code iwconfig, says also my device is IEEE 802.11g
since i cant connect, i cant do or install anything.

Please advise

Best regards.

open a termenal assume root and type lspci this will show all your pci devices look foer the wireless then do a lsmod to see if it is module(driver) is loaded. if it is then. type iwconfig this will show your card and configuration. if it comes back know device then do a ifconfig this will show all you net work device names. mostlikeley it is eth1 so do a ifconfig eth1
then do a iwconfig.
this can all be done through the yumgui program on your computer where it says configure a devices. well anyway find your wifi net program click it and fill in the blanks. good luck. Agan yumgui will do your card to. or yum. if you are having this much problems with FC8 I would try another distro like pclinux.

Welcome to LQ.

As Drakeo says, you first have to find out what your wireless device is and see if a driver is installed. Note that IEEE 802.11g is simply the protocol used by the typical modern wireless card. The actual card will be a more specific name.

Post your specific card name, model number, etc. There are quirks with some.

Also, jumping to another distro is not going to help.
