How to configure Nagios 2.0 in Rhel 5
 
Hi all

I have installed Nagios 2.0 in my Rhel 5 box.I want to monitor Windows servers (Active dirtectory+exchange server+dns) and all basic windows services likeMemory usage, CPU load, Disk usage, Service states, Running processes and few linux machine+all services of linux
For windows i have installed nsclient and for linux I have installed nrpe

i have configured the below mentioned cfg file

host,hostgroup,contact,contact group,timeperiod

I need to configure command.cfg and services.cfg as its very confusing.can anybody please help me.A sample template can help me to solve my problem.Thnks in advance

You might want to look for a newer version. Versions prior to 3.0.5 have security problems. The configuration files for 2.x and 3.x are the same as I recall.

I'd start by defining a basic ping service and getting that working first. Getting NSclient (also somewhat outdated but still usable) and NRPE up and running is just a bit more advanced. And NSclient configuration isn't the same as NRPE configuration. If you're not already aware of it, you'll need to install software on any systems that you're going to be doing any monitoring more than sophisticated than pinging.

I would strongly recommend one of two books: Nagios System and Network Monitoring by Wolfgang Barth or Pro Nagios 2.0 by James Turnbull. Both a very good at helping get things set up. These texts (one I borrowed and the other I bought) were a big help when I inherited a Nagios monitoring system a while back. And they'll explain things better than I could do here. Sorry if this isn't what you're looking for but Nagios configuration is not exactly, IMHO, a newbie type of question.
