In general (not only for VLC) you don't have to be root to compile a source code. but for installing the compiled binary files to system location needs root access. Otherwise if you just want to run the compiled binary, just run it from its current location in the build directory.
thanks for reply.I want to run source code of vlc to know abt different codec.I got infos from net that below steps are need to install.
1. yum install build-essential (To do this i need enter as root.wat is build_essential ?)
2. Install the dependencies
3. ./configure --disable-swscale
4. make and make install
pls help me
